Biography

Born on the 6th of June 1986 to a musical family, Tom has been actively involved with music in one way or another all of his life.

He started learning the violin at the age of 5 and quickly proved himself to be a born performer. At 10 he took up drumming and was soon enlisted into his school's concert band. This coupled with his classical violin experience gave him a solid foundation that has remained at the heart of his musicianship. The next 5 years were tough but drove him to discover new ways of venting frustration and expressing himself. This was the birth of his obsession with rock music! When he was 14 Tom was given his first guitar and his technical ability on the violin paid dividends when translated from 4 to 6 strings.

Tom felt like a fish out of water at school but it was here that he met members of his first band, Mynteer. He was now writing songs for the band, influenced by the likes of Incubus, Silverchair and Metallica and showing a fascination with unconventional tunings and interesting harmonies. Mynteer quickly became a serious contender in the local 'Rock' scene recording various E.Ps, gaining radio time and playing sell-out gigs. Performing with the likes of Skindred and Sikth, Mynteer was the first real experience Tom had of writing contemporary music but it certainly was not to be his last! He practised the guitar obsessively and eventually began taking lessons from Bob Cranham. Bob has been the single greatest influence on Tom to date; he has been a true mentor, guiding and advising Tom in pursuit of his career as a solo artist. It was Bob who initiated the recording project that produced Tom's first E.P, Picture a World, recorded at The Soundhouse Studios at Shepherds Bush.

After spending a year studying guitar at the Academy of Contemporary Music whilst still continuing his lessons with Bob Cranham, he is currently back at the ACM, in his final year of a degree in production. Tom has his own custom-built recording studio where he records and produces his songs and those of other bands to a professional level. Tom has worked with the likes of 50FT Panda, Paul Webb, David Carroll, The Drive and Turbine Blade to name but a few. He also plays Bass regularly with a local covers band, The Gutterhearts gigging in various locations up and down the UK.

With Tom's gift for music it was only natural for him to want to share this knowledge with others. He enjoys teaching privately and spends one day a week as a peripatetic guitar teacher in a school where he also helps out with Music Technology A-level.

Tom has already performed as a solo artist at various London venues, including Storm at Leicester Square, The Harlequin, Lark in the Park, Leonards EC1, Fiddler's Elbow and Monkey Chews and is looking forward to similar gigs in the near future.
