The Ross Sea Party Bio

The Ross Sea Party is a typically unusual Los Angeles family. Five friends who wanted to transcend the disconnected and nonsensical nature of life in the city and create something consequential, the band built a home with hollow-body guitars, well tuned drums, and a glockenspiel. Like its namesake, a little know yet heroic wing of Ernest Shackleton's famed 1914 Trans-Antarctic Expedition, the band can be characterized by their easy navigation across an ever changing atmosphere.

Raised on everything from the idiosyncratic guitar work of Neil Young and the irreverent pop of The Talking Heads to contemporaries Band Of Skulls, Lykki Li and White Rabbits, the Ross Sea Party is constantly inspired. While paying homage to their influences, the band has simultaneously managed to create an unmistakable and unique sound. Characterized by spacious instrumentation and singer Brady Erickson's unique voice atop energetic and danceable rhythms, the songs remain simple, catchy and melodic at their core.

The band's appreciation for the basics of a genuinely well crafty song is due to the fact that three of the five members spent years prior performing as solo artists. Having spent time in various bands playing the Los Angeles indie scene, Brady Erickson began to put The RSP together in 2009 with Michael Baumer, an LA native. It was Baumer unique style on the drums that drew the two of them together . Multi-instrumentalist Will Vanderwyden jumped into the fray having heard a few rough song sketches. Will's sister Missy Vanderwyden had almost no choice but to join the band just days after moving to Los Angeles from Ohio; the boys knew her unmistakable talent on the piano could be easily appropriated into the music. Atlanta native Mark Tillman was the final piece of the puzzle. He had been looking for just the right band since moving to LA so that he could lay down his uniquely melodic and erratic guitar style.

The band has just released it's debut album, The Plains Of Id E.P., in the Spring of 2010. The tide is rising as music fans start to spread the word about The Ross Sea Party. The band is currently bringing a contagious energy to the Southern California music scene and has been hitting the road this summer in support of the release.
