Lyrics
Be Like You (Case/Haberman) June 2012 Produced by Stephen McKnight
In those simple times and easy days
Lemonade stands and Little League games
We grew up without a single worry in the world
My daddy worked hard every day
When he came home he said it's time to play
He hugged us like he's been away for so, so long
When I looked at him I felt so proud
And told him: "that I'll be like you somehow
'Cause Daddy that's all that matters to me"
Time passed on, I went to school
Had everything that I could want
I showed you all the good things I'd been taught
Got a loving wife, sweet things in life
Never had to pay a cent for it
But still now and then I slow down just a bit
To daydream about the man who showed me how to love
And when nighttime came he held me close
And told me about all the wonders that I'd see
But that didn't matter much to me
With a gentle smile he'd mess my hair
He'd tuck me in so I'd have no fear
I'd look at him and softly say: "Daddy I just want to be like you
So tell me everything that I need to do
All I want is to be like you"
One day he told me some things that he'd learned:
"Contentment you can't buy, although many times I tried
You know how to love a woman, and your family's taken care of
You hold your child's hand, you laugh and no one understands"
Now that he's gone, no longer here
I miss him more it seems every year
There's no more good ways to check things out
My mind drifts back to days long ago
When it seemed that time moved so slow
He showed me how to love
