Cold

Story Behind The Song

"I don't know where my head was when I wrote it. As a two-piece, we wanted to write something direct and catchy. I added the lyrics on top, and they mainly came from a sense of frustration at looking at a host of other bands "making it" in some sort of indie-hipster way, and the ever-present question: 'why can't we be there too?'" --J. Dunn

Lyrics

I take a walk outside, and I step into the road, and then I wander to the other side, where the rest of it unfolds, I hold my finger to the weather, but you know it's always cold, I try to keep my thoughts together, but it hurts right in my soul, my soul, my soul, why do you have to be so cold? why do you have to be so cold? why can't you do what you are told? why do you have to be so cold? I see the bums they stand in line, and they scream at me "so what?" (so what?), I try my best to put up a fight, they get mad and start to cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, can I put it in a letter? can I put it to you right? or should I put it in a love song? sing it for you tonight, alright, alright, why do you have to be so cold? why do you have to be so cold? while life around you all unfolds, why do you have to be so cold? oh yeah, oh yeah, everybody wants to make the grade, (alright, alright, alright-oh), and everybody wants a great escape, (alright, alright, alright-oh), and everybody wants to take the cake, (alright, alright, alright-oh), but everybody hides their worst mistakes, (alright, alright), why do you have to be so cold? why do you have to be so cold? the future caters to the bold, why do you have to be so cold? yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
