Salt

Story Behind The Song

This song reflects my personal frustration when the end of a sexual relationship is automatically assumed to signal the end of the friendship. In this song I refer to a separation from someone with whom I had little in common...they loved the "fresh water" and I loved the "salt" (both literally and metaphorically). Upon parting, I truly wished them well, but they could only see things as "all good" or "all bad" and insisted on severing the friendship. I think this is sadly all too common!

Song Description

Relationship endings do not have to be full of recriminations! The songrwiter here wishes the other partner well, acknowledging poetically that their differences may have been insurmountable, and lamenting the fact that so many endings are abrupt "all or nothing" events! Human beings are more complex than that!!

Lyrics

SALT

hope you find your fresh-water haven
find no fault
find the sweetness you?ve been craving
I love tasting salt
I love tasting salt

wishing you well
wishing you didn?t have to be so damned abrupt
the great divide
the in, the out
you love a good, clean getaway
me, I always overstay
I always overstay

hope you find your fresh-water haven
find no fault
find the sweetness you?ve been craving
I love tasting salt
I love tasting salt

you?re moving on
shedding the layers and distractions of the past
no room for all
the awkwardness
the line you draw is clear and well-defined
the ones you keep, the ones you leave behind
the left behind

hope you find your fresh-water haven
find no fault
find the sweetness you?ve been craving
I love tasting salt
I love tasting salt
I love tasting salt
