Singer/Songwriter Van Wampler

Van’s instruments are as varied as his style. Keyboard reigns as his primary instrument, which he continues to study under the tutelage of Annig Agemian Raley. He plays a mean saxophone as well as guitar, drums, and steel drum, all self-taught. At times he dabbles with violin and trumpet. He plays all the instruments on most of his recordings and mixes the tracks himself, carefully choosing the balance of sound he wants to deliver.

Van’s personal taste in music runs from current groups like Jet, The Format, and The Fray, to The Beatles, Elton John, and Eric Clapton. He also appreciates Deep South Blues like Leadbelly.

Van performs at coffee shops, fundraisers, in local musical productions, and with student jazz bands. His song Anaesthetic is the score for the multiple award-winning student film of the same name. He also wrote the score for his film The Quite Depressing, Unreliable Story of Erwin Longshanks, which won a Special Jury Prize in the student competition at the Aspen Shorts Fest in 2006.

Van’s plans for the future include attending the University of Colorado at Boulder next fall where he will continue his creative work with music and film.
