Story Behind The Song

This songs was inspired by a scene in the film Dead Poet's Society, where a young student wanted to be an actor, and received nothing but negativity and bullying by his father, so much so he committed suicide. This is not directly aimed at this particular scene, but a similar situation, where a parent or guardian is so down on someone who has a creative wish to be something, a less supportive parent would consider to be a total waste of time, especially as the parent in this case, has made no effort to achieve anything in their own life, that their hatred toward themselves is reflected to their offspring. (I must emphasize, this has no bearing on my own life).
