Ethereal Engagement

Story Behind The Song

Practically every line is based on a true story. The relationship survived the events in the song, but it was fatally wounded and died a slow lingering death. During which period I had writers block, this song was brewing at the back of my mind... then suddenly it was unleashed a couple of years later. The drum pattern was put together by Dan Coghill, based on my instructions. Chris Dumigan laid down the basic mellotron part and suggested big harmonies (he's singing the low parts), although the canon ending was a happy accident whilst recording. Art by Accident rules!

Song Description

This song is about a moment of pure rage. That moment when you discover your fiancee has spent the night at some other lads house... And no it wasn't her brother or cousing! This is a one engagement that doesn't seem quite right... Well it isn't actually much of an engagement, it's not real... it is ethereal. I don't have a band... so live it's usually acoustic + bass. Gives it a slighty Irish Folk feel!

Lyrics

I?m getting a feeling something isn?t right.
Cause she?s not home and its morning light.
As the sun rises and the dawn begins to break.
My heart is heavy, my body starts to shake.

And you?re never at home, and you?re always right.
Tell me at who?s house did you spend the night?
And I?m thinking someday this will have to stop.
Tell me who?ll be the one to give it all up?

You always seem to get your own way.
I?m always the one who has to pay.
Things for you I see never see.
You compliment others, but never me

yes, you?re never at home...

You?re forever talking about other men.
Call me a fool, but you?re starting again.
You?re eyes glistening in pure delight.
Why do you also want to be my wife?

yes, you?re never at home...

Fingers playing with my band of gold.
Each other forever, or so I?ve been told.
But I?m starting athinking that may be a lie.
For I?m here all alone and wanting to cry.

yes, you?re never at home...
