Song Description
The singer still isn't over his ex-wife. He sets up a situation where he appears to accidentally run into her, and tries to put on a brave face. As he talks to her he privately hopes she doesn't ask him a number of specific questions because talking about them would just be too painful for him. He actually hopes they will talk about superficial things in order to get through the conversation without breaking down. While talking to her he notices she is wearing a new diamond ring.

Lyrics
Don't Ask
Don't ask if I knew I might run into you
Or if I think about things that we used to do
And please don't you ask me if I'm doing well
Don't ask and I won't tell
Don't ask about the cafe we used to go to
Or the night that I gave Mom's old diamond to you
That kiss on the boardwalk outside our hotel
Don't ask and I won't tell
Let's talk about the weather, I hope it don't rain
Or how 'bout them Titans on Monday night's game
So please don't you ask me if I'm doing well
Don't ask and I won't tell
Don't ask if I still look at our photographs
The ones where we're happy, the ones where we laughed
That sweet look of love I remember so well
Don't ask and I won't tell
No need to remind me that you're doing fine
That you're moving on and you've left me behind
Don't ask where I'm going when you walk away
Or why I'm so different without much to say
Or if seeing your new diamond ring hurts like hell
Don't ask and I won't tell
Don't ask and I won't tell
