Sweaty

Story Behind The Song

I wrote it for all the guys I see sitting along the bar when I'm playing a show. It makes me laugh when they nearly fall off their stools when a beautiful woman walks by them, yet very few, if any of them, approach the woman.

Song Description

Boy watches a beautiful Girl walk past him in his favorite bar where his favorite band will be playing shortly. Boy is too shy to talk to the Girl. Boy has a drink. Wishes he had courage enough to talk to Girl. And another drink. And so on, until Boy loses Girl in crowd, and the show is nearly over. Boy has enough liquid courage to talk to the Girl. Boy sees Girl sitting with one of her friends. He approaches them. Playful banter ensues.

Lyrics

I watched her strut down
To the end of the bar
Barely touching her drink
Chewing on her straw

I would walk down
To her if I had some balls
And I would make her laugh
Instead of staring at the wall

But sometimes I get shy
And I don't know why
Then I think too much
And my mouth gets dry

I put a beer down
Then I'm feeling bold
And I'd walk over to her
But where did she go?

Aw, there she is
She's sitting
No longer alone
Chatting up a friend
I think her name is Joan
And looking pretty
Man, the girl so fine
That I forget my name
But I don't mind

I say, "Hey Ladies.
Ladies, How you doin?
I think my name is Joey
And I play for the Bruins."

Then she start laughing
And call me a liar
'Cuz I'm only 5'9"
and my shoes untied

She say, "You really want to talk to me don't feed me no lie.
Ask for a smoke, or ask for the time."
So I said, "Baby, baby, baby, baby, where you from?
You know I like your dress. Would you like some gum?
So you dig this band, huh? What's your favorite song?
And what you gonna do when the lights come on?
Because I know of a party. It should be fun, with lots of live music,
and plenty of rum.
Well do you want to dance?
Do you want to dance?
You know I like to dance.
Come on, take a chance."
She say, "I don't know.
It's nearly time to go.
And 'sides, this the bands last song of the show,
And I'd hate to leave my friend Joan sitting alone.
You know?"

Well put your crap down.
Let's get up and go.
You know it's never too late.
You're never too old.

We could start now,
If you don't mind
And bring your friend along
Because your friend is fly

But all I really want to do is get close to you
Wrap my arms around your body, Belly rubbin' Boo
Slip out the back door
Hope we don't get far
And we'll be steaming up the windows
In your Daddy's car
Getting Sweaty

You know I'd like to see you sweaty
