My Magnetic Personality

Story Behind The Song

I seem to have some kind of aura around me that causes computers and other electronic devices to slow down or otherwise act up. I call it "my magnetic personality", thus the title of this song. Maybe it's just coincidence, but it seems to happen an awful lot.

Song Description

This song reflects the frustrations that often arise when dealing with electronic devices. Whether at home on my computer, at a grocery or department store, at the bank, even on the phone, anything that involves computers often tends to result in a slow down, or even crash, when I get around them. Software glitches are common, along with the hardware. Some of these occurrences are addressed in this song, a few hypothetical, but most actual.

Lyrics

My Magnetic Personality

Verse 1

A magnetic personality in normal people tends
To boost your popularity and make you lots of friends.
It's usually considered to be a useful trait,
But, in my case, it is something that all electronics hate.

Verse 2

I was at the grocery store, in the checkout line.
Although the place was crowded, everything was moving fine.
When I got to the cashier, everybody's mood was dashed,
Everything came to a screeching halt, her register had crashed.

Chorus

My magnetic personality has raised its ugly head.
When I get close to things with chips, everything goes dead.
It causes me embarrassment, it gets the best of me,
My magnetic personality.

Verse 3

I was at the hardware store, shopping for a tool.
The price tag wasn't on the shelf, normally the rule.
So, I took it to the scanner, since I didn't have a clue
And as I swiped it 'cross the sensor, the doggone screen turned blue.

Verse 4

I got caught up in a traffic jam, it all was caused by me.
The highway was a parking lot as far as I could see.
I should have paid attention to that inner lurking elf,
And I never should have ridden in a car that drives itself.

Verse 5

I had a question on a bill, so I had to make a call.
I went onto eternal hold, about to climb the wall,
After waiting half an hour, I got an operator.
She said "our server just went down, you'll have to call back later."

Verse 6

I tried to print this song out so that I'd recall the words.
My memory is not the best, it's going to the birds.
I sent it to the printer and the paper promptly jammed,
So I used the digits I could trust and wrote it out by hand.

Repeat Chorus

It causes me embarrassment, it gets the best of me,
