But For The Thirst

Story Behind The Song

A personal song to myself regarding certain life experiences such as battling with addictions & demons, paranoia, inability to socialize and more. The inner voice reaches out to give hope and warn of the mistakes that can be made in life.

Song Description

This was my first full production done a few years ago and evolved from a poem I made about my life. The poem evolved over 7 years and finally became this song. I mixed elements of dark and light with a slow trip hop beat and dark synth work. The vocals are male and they are two separate characters, one at odds with the other. There are considerable spiritual undertones to the song.

Lyrics

Buckle down buckle down
don't throw it around
you know you're dying everyday everyday anyway
you had your times wild boy
but you don't shine
there's no-one home in your eyes
no surprise no surprise
so buckle down buckle down
don't throw it around
you know you're dying everyday everyday anyway
you had your times wild boy
but you don't shine
there's no-one home in your eyes
no surprise no surprise

I'm waiting to taste it again
my heart's bursting out of my chest
I've got this feeling
the meaning of anxiousness
got to get on the bus again
and sit next to those people who smell

I'm missing you
I start holding my breath again
holding my breath again

So consider what you swallow
from your feet to your head
because you're looking kinda hollow
like you're on your death bed
oh don't go moaning about life saying it's not fair
well if you want to change
you need to clean that shit out of your head

I'm getting closer to the place
where all the pain stops
knock knock on the door
waiting for it to unlock
it's been ten long minutes now
I don't think anyone's home
like a ton of heart-ache
I just fall to the floor
fall to the floor

Every time I tried to escape through every vice that I could find
I'd burn bridges with hurt and rage and suffering inside
I'd only invite demons to weave webs of my desires
that pulled me to me knees until I was released by the Messiah
If you want to be free seek His words and you'll see the lies
If you want to be free seek His words and you'll see the light
close your eyes
