Story Behind The Song
My mother was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer when I was 30. I was really close to her and it's taken me 13 years to write a song that I see as doing her justice. She was the inspiration behind my musical career and paid for my guitar and piano lessons, sent me money when I was broke and living away from home in bands.
When she was diagnosed it seemed that me and my dad were the last to know what was actually happening. So a doctor "took us in a room" and explained that they couldn't operate and she only had a few months to lilve.
My mother dealt with the news with real strength of character and helped to make the arrangements for her funeral and sorted out her affairs herself. At her funeral I insisted on being a bearer as it was my last way of showing how I felt for her.

Lyrics
It came out of nowhere
And took you by the hand
And suddenly a young boy
Had to learn to be a man
We sought an explanation
He took us to a room
And said his work is done now
There was nothing he could de
Save a place for me up there in heaven
Wave to me as you fly by the moon
I hope you get the welcome you deserve
In heaven's waiting room
You handled the arrangements
And took it in your stride
You'll always be remembered
With dignity and pride
I bore you on my shoulders
Like any son would do
You carried me all my life
And now I carry you
Save a place for me up there in heaven
Wave to me as you fly by the moon
I hope you get the welcome you deserve
In heaven's waiting room
I still think about you
As often as I can
But tears are often frowned on
When they come from a man
I underestimated
The time it takes to grieve
And now I'm just a shadow
Of the man I used to be
Save a place for me up there in heaven
Wave to me as you fly by the moon
I hope you get the welcome you deserve
In heaven's waiting room
