Story Behind The Song
I love the Smiths' morbid sense of humor (e.g. "unhappy birthday"). After seeing an ad in an airplane catalog for a passenger doll ("for safety") that was obviously intended to allow HOV lane use, and inspired by the Smiths, the lyrics for rubber girl appeared effortlessly.
