Story Behind The Song
I wrote this after an afternoon washing my sailboat / home. I was approached by an older tourist who told me how beautiful my boat was and that one day he was going to retire and sell his stuff and get one just like it. It was easy insipration from there.

Lyrics
Out up on my sailboat, w/ a scrub brush in my hand
Lazy days washing away footprints made of sand
Thinking man, ain?t life funny, sometimes I can?t believe
I was sentenced to a mundane life, but I signed my own reprieve
Staring at my boat and me w/ distant looking eyes,
An old man out on holiday, soon to be retired
He said ?5 more years and I?ll be right here w/ a sailboat all my own?
It was then he frowned as he turned around wondering where his time had gone
Chorus Where has all the time gone?
Where are all who I?ve known
What the hell am I doing this for
Well, I said, it?s gone pretty damn well
And they?re all here as far as I can tell
There?s no rhyme or reason why
You only get one chance to live and die
Saw my high-school buddy just the other day
See he went his way I went mine what else can I say
He?s a doctor now so much different than me
But if I blow out my knee again, he?s the one I?ll see
I brought him up to my own world, for cheap draft beer and rum
Made fun of his sunburned face, and he laughed when I was done
Then he said man where have all those good times gone
I said jus look around this island town
?Cause they?ve been here all along
CHORUS-
Now I try to live every day like it could be my last
Never planned to see forever, the days go way too fast
Trying to slow that ticking clock up on the wall
So many towns and ups and downs
But my god I?ve had a ball!
