Story Behind The Song
Lahaina used to be the whaling capital of the pacific 100 years ago. The 1/4 mile long town used to consist of a bunch of bars, a hotel, drunk sailors, and a jail. In the last 30 years the town has gone from a party town, to a town full of time share salesmen, activity agents, and overpriced silly coffe shops where an old salty dog can no longer have fun. The old sailors wouldn't even recognize the place. This song was written on my 30th birthday.

Lyrics
It was the 3rd week in August
In ?72
That a sailor was born
A tradition made true
Well soon the first page was written
The first chapter done
Now 3 decades of stories
Since page number 1
Pre-Chorus:
And the stories get longer
As the sailor gets older
The water keeps rolling by
Through the struggles in livin?
And through the eye of the storm
He?s not trying for riches and fortunes
He?s just trying to stay dry and warm
For the last 100 years now
In this old whalers town
The sailors have gathered
From the whole world around
Where the rum flowed like water
And the tall tales were spun
Of pirates and women
And gold by the ton
Pre chorus
Chorus:
Now the music shuts down now at a ΒΌ to 10
The pirates all left and won?t be back again
The fishing fleet trawlers have all run aground
And there ain?t no cowboys left in this one horse island town
Today the world is a changin?
For the better say some
And designer fool coffee
Has replaced the rum
Now 30 years after
I first heard the call
It?s hard to believe
They were here at all
