Alaska

Story Behind The Song

After visiting Alaska on a cruise with my wife and good friends in May of 2010 I wanted to write a song to remember my personal experience that I could share with others. After writing the chorus, I decided to do some research about the state to make it more of historical value and pehaps, even more meaningful. This then, morphed itself into a beautiful tribute song for the State and for anyone who lives, travels or might venture to America's last great wild frontier...

Song Description

An epic journey through Alaska (Wild Frontier) from a historical and personal point of view. Discriptive and visual imagery in song with music to compliment. Beautiful tribute to the great State, peaceful and pleasant to listen and enjoy.

Recorded at Music Focus, Hermosa Beach, CA

Verse 1
They came to Skagway and Dyea to pay their toll
Those miners with their bags would climb,
Mountains filled with dreams of gold
They struggled to the summit, up the Chilkoot and White Pass Trails
With visions of, a new life, determined to prevail
Many were robbed along the way, many of them died
For those who lived, to tell the tale, they did so with pride

Chorus
Alaska, how beautiful you are
Alaska, you are my Northern Star
From Glazier Bay to your snow capped peaks,
Past totem poles of thunderbirds, looking cross great lakes
Alaska, Alaska, your call of the wild frontier, sets me free

Verse 2
I am filled with memories when nature first took my hand
Fishing for king salmon, in cold waters off Ketchikan
I appreciate the beauty in everything I see around me
The Bald Eagles when they soar above remind us of the freedom we love
Forget-me-not the fresh scent our State's flower blue and gold
And polar bears, kings on ice majestic to behold

Chorus
Alaska, how beautiful you are
Alaska, you are my Northern Star
From Glazier Bay to your snow capped peaks,
Past totem poles of thunderbirds, looking cross great lakes
Alaska, Alaska, your call of the wild frontier, sets me free

Bridge
From Anchorage to Nome they go almost a thousand miles from home
Retrace that "Serum Run", that saved nearly everyone
The statue of Balto the famous sled dog is a tribute to all who were involved
And now they come, from far and near
Those mushers that race the Iditarod, every year
Chorus
Alaska, how beautiful you are
Alaska, you are my Northern Star
From Glazier Bay to your snow capped peaks,
Past totem poles of thunderbirds, looking cross great lakes
Alaska, Alaska, your call of the wild frontier, sets me free
Your call of the wild frontier, sets me free
Your call of the wild frontier, sets me free, sets me free

I love the overall feel of the song. Nice vocal mix. loved the guitar. I would loveto know how you got that guitar sound?
