Story Behind The Song
First draft goes back quite a ways, to a time I was a participant in the White Eyes Music Club in Ohio. The club brought together old-time and new-time players from all over the U.S. Motivated me to write a song about the power of "old songs."
Song Description
A traditional country waltz with a whole lot of hooks. Great opportunities for harmonies and musical allusions.

Lyrics
THOSE OLD SONGS
(The Red River Valley Still Runs Through My Veins)
We live in a world of change
It's true time has wings
So many people I have loved
Now I can find only in dreams
When I feel lonely for those gone days
I sit down with my guitar
And strrum the old songs that never change
But always stay close to the heart
The Red River Valley still runs through my veins
Old Smokey's still covered with snow
And mama's still dancin' to the Tennessee Waltz
Just like she did years ago
And mama's stil dancing to the Tennessee Waltz
Just like she did years ago
My dad was a barn dance fiddler
Now he's playin' those old songs in Heaven
The Orange Blossom Special, Amazing Grace, The Wreck of the Old '97
Those old songs are country roads
They take me back through the years
When livin' was easy and lovin' was new
The laughter before all the tears
[Chorus]
