D Flat

Story Behind The Song

We'd already written the music to this song and agreed it was a very sad song... so we named it "D Flat" ... like Nigel Tuffnel says in Spinal Tap: "It's really the saddest of all keys"... and yes the song was written in D Flat. So it sat on the backburner for a long time... I began to feel as though there was nothing I would ever be able to do in such a big, fucked-up world to make anything better, and really fell into rut that I couldn't get out of. It wasn't until months later that I was driving to work, thinking about all this hopelessness that the lyrics to the song started to stick in my mind and when I actually took the time to write them out it started to feel as though I could embrace these feelings and use them to fuel the fight for a better world. Cheesy, but true.

Song Description

D Flat is a song about dispair. In times like these it's easy to be overwhelmed by the troubles in the world and the difficulty of being happy with your own life. Ultimately we wanted to share the fact that we've all felt his way... that you're not alone when you're down, so it's okay to embrace these feelings of dispair and focus their energy towards a positive end.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
For those that have a problem with pretending the troubles in this world are not our own: The world doesn't owe you happy endings, but I want you to know you're not alone.

Chorus teaser:
Thoughts ablaze

Verse 2:
Dealing with the truth is often too hard. I guess I could relate if you were lost. I wonder if we'll let it take us this far, I wonder if we can afford the cost?

Prechorus 1:
We've all been there, hearts full of ache. When your eyes echo their disdain. We've all been there: "D Flat" = Dispair.

Verse 3:
For those that have a problem with pretending that everything is gonna be okay: This feeling doesn't have to be your ending. You can always fight for better days.

Prechorus 2:
We've all been there, hearts full of ache. When laughter will not medicate. We've all been there: "D Flat" = Dispair.

Chorus 1:
Your thoughts ablaze, will burn if fuelled by hate. These darkened days burn out and blow away, the sorrow fades.

Prechorus 3:
We've all been there, hearts full of ache. When shallow hearts are all you see. We've all been there: "D Flat" = Dispair.

Chorus 2:
Your thoughts ablaze, will burn if fuelled by hate. These darkened days burn out and blow away, the sorrow fades.
