Story Behind The Song
I knew my long-term girlfriend was very much interested in another guy and we were on the virge of breaking up. It was a last-ditch effort to try and tell her how I felt and in the end it did little to no good. There is a reference to an Igloo On The Sun in the song. I had written a song about such an igloo a few years before this. The igloo on the sun represented my place of comfort. It has since melted down.
Song Description
It's about a guy who knows his girlfriend is about to break up with him, so he dreams of escaping to the moon. There, he figures, no one will be around to hurt him and this will save the girl the trouble of abandoning him.

Lyrics
i know that there's something
sendin' you an invitation
and i just don't feel like waitin
so i've stopped all concentration
and you know i know you know
that you're bewildered and befuddled
all the players they've all huddled
'cause they know our minds aren't cuddled
so i don't think that living here's
the best thing i can do
so sick and tired of feeling blue
'til your wits come on back to you
so i'm gonna live on the moon
where there's nobody there to hurt me
and you won't ever see my face again
so that saves you all the trouble can't desert me
if i'm on the moon
i think it might not be
as bad as it may seem
there's no one here to hear you scream
though no one's here to see you dream
the air is thin
the only color here is grey
but the pain from day to day's
200,000 miles away
my igloo on the sun
has melted down so far and fast
and all our times we know have passed
but i still wanted it to last
so i'm gonna live on the moon
where there's nobody there to hurt me
and you won't ever see my face again
so that saves you all the trouble can't desert me
if i'm on the moon
the wonders of the girl
have been here ever since creation
now she's playing my emotions
like she's playing my play-station
so i'm gonna live on the moon
where there's nobody there to hurt me
and you won't ever see my face again
so that saves you all the trouble can't desert me
if i'm on the moon
if i'm on the moon
moving to the moon
