Song Description

A protest song about surveillance: police helicopters, computer tracking, etc. Modern feel but also some poor man's Hendrix in there.

Story Behind the Song

Had the riff kicking around for a while & forever had "Johnny get out of the sky" as a title, kind of a play on RHCP "Johnny Kick A Hole In The Sky", but Johnny Law & how annoying police helicopters are. One day I put 2 and 2 together then we ended up with this song. The rest was easy.

Lyrics

Johnny, get out of the sky
Man wasn't meant to fly
We don't need to see your eye
And we got nothing to hide

Where did we go?
That The Man would have to know
What we know - and what we do
We've got to try
To kick him out of our blue sky
After a while - Johnny will come after you

Johnny, get out of the air
I can hear you hanging there
So many times you swear
We got no need to be scared

Where did we go?
That The Man would have to know
What we know - and what we do
We've got to try
To kick him out of our blue sky
After a while - Johnny will come after you

Mr. Law sir - You don't belong here
We can't say exactly why
While you're up there - In your copter
We just know that it ain't right

Johnny, get out of the box
You're watching what we watch
This is not some idle thought
It all gets in your log

Where did we go?
That The Man would have to know
What we know - and what we do
We've got to try
To kick him out of our blue sky
After a while - Johnny will come after you
It's not too late
Being watched is not our fate
We better change - before he comes after you
