Lyrics
The National Razor
Yeah time is an animal, on a leash that you just can't hold
Cuz God knows it's a sin to change the boat you're in to join some other battle that you can't win
And it's a secret that you just can't hold, and I would seriously sell my soul
To have a slight inkling of what you want from me, is everybody this hard to please?
But when I face that national razor, they say it's painless
And when they say it'll start a war, God knows they're right
So let time be that animal, in all these times that try mens' souls
Before my country I've sinned to bring it up again would be another battle that I can't win
But when I face that national razor, they say it's painless
And when they say it'll start a war, God knows they're right
Fell like a domino, but what they wanted from me I don't know
I showed them everything that I could show, as if I've ever really had any answers
I tried to make amends, to turn these screaming masses into friends
Versailles was crawling with their filthy hands, but none of them had any answers
I gave them monarchy, they wanted something more like anarchy
And so they dragged me to the guillotine, Oh!
