A Hole in Water

Song Description

A Hole in Water is about the suicide of a TV actor called Pete Duel in 1971, and the effect it had on me as a child. Duel played the character of Hannibal Heyes in a TV show called Alias Smith and Jones, which I absolutely adored. Hearing of Duel's death was my first encounter with suicide, the notion that life could be so sad that someone would want to leave it. The song is also about a recurring childhood nightmare/vision of being in a car with my family and driving off a bridge into water. A lot of the songs on the album are concerned with both childhood and death.
