The Lake

Story Behind The Song

After moving from his home country of New Zealand to Australia to start a new life James (mez) finds its not all that he thought it was cracked up to be. Deciding to return home after just three months he had no idea that a girl he met just weeks before leaving would change his life forever. At first not even sure if they should be friends due to age differences he found himself back in his home country accross the pacific ocean slowly realising the exact moment in the exact place on the first day the two met that their hearts had bonded irreversably. They had fallen in love. He penned the lyrics whilst amid the realisation as a way of showing her that their friendship meant more than any other. He promised to visit her at christmas time to make it special for her. Every plan they made seemed to fail/ Finally, just as all hope was lost a last minute plan emerged that sealed the fates of them both. He flew to see her for 6 days over christmas and slowly began to realise the extent to which they clicked. It was on New Years Day that he confessed to being in love with her and her tears were her confession that she too had fallen for him. She denied him a kiss because she couldnt bear it when he was gone. They had broken both their own hearts. James returned to New Zealand knowing the road ahead would be very long and hard. He soldiered on and hatched a plan. He knew the depth and truth of the love and that he would go to the lengths he had to for her sake. The music for the song came in bursts firstly the intro and chorus which was written a short while before the christmas visit. He visited a second time only this time it was only for a weekend as that was all he could manage. But all he cared about was that he could manage it. The rest of the music came shortly after this visit in a writing session just before valentines day/ He recorded it and sent it to her on V day :) They're finaly living together and are extremely happy. 6 months apart. Worth every minute.

Lyrics

Chin up, eyes at me
Let me wrap my arms
Around your hollow body
the end of another long day
Walked in shoes stiched by ridicule
It's all going to change soon
When you go home and leave me
With a reflection of your empty room

I wish you didnt have to go, just go
You ought to be on your way home

Theres always next time
We'll make sure we make a riot
When we aimlessly do the rounds
With all our favourite things
And inside, my heart will sing
Fireworks dont compare to you
And as the artists day draws to a close
This he swears, this he knows
You dont know how much i need you

I wish you didnt have to go, just go
You ought to be on your way home

We'll never grow old
I believe every word you told me
I hate them but i love you
But like everything, this has to end
...Its time to go

I wish you didnt have to go, just go
You ought to be on your way home

I sit by the lake on my own
wondering in 10 years time
What will i know?
