Get Up, Go On (Your Way)

Story Behind The Song

The lyrics come from a conversation I had with my friend who'd broken up with a guy she'd been dating for years. He said he didn't think she was the "one" but if she wanted to "hang out" meaning have sex every once in a while, that was cool. She was really pissed about it and told him to F-off and then she ran out the door...she's a runner and she ended up running five miles after she left his house.

Song Description

The singer is telling the guy that she's not going to be his booty call since they've broken up so she's telling him to "Get Up and Go On" his way.

Lyrics

You said I wasn?t right
Right or wrong, not for you
You said stay one more night
One more night you can do

Once back upon a time
You said I was beautiful
You said that the moonlight
Shined so brightly in my eyes

GET UP, GO ON
LEAVE ME BACK IN YESTERDAY
GET UP AND GO ON
COZ I?M NOT JUST SOME GAME TO PLAY
IF YOU?RE DONE, YOU?RE GONE
AND YOU?VE SAID ALL THAT YOU CAN SAY
THEN GET UP AND GO ON YOUR WAY

Door shuts, five steps down
Walk myself into a run
Thought you made all my days
Now my days are all my own
And I get up and go on
I get up and go on

GET UP, GO ON
LEAVE ME BACK IN YESTERDAY
GET UP AND GO ON
COZ I?M NOT JUST SOME GAME TO PLAY
IF YOU?RE DONE, YOU?RE GONE
AND YOU?VE SAID ALL THAT YOU CAN SAY
THEN GET UP AND GO ON YOUR WAY

I have some imagination
Of a perfect destination
Perfect you and me
Only I, only I can see

GET UP, GO ON
LEAVE ME BACK IN YESTERDAY
GET UP AND GO ON
COZ I?M NOT JUST SOME GAME TO PLAY
IF YOU?RE DONE, YOU?RE GONE
AND YOU?VE SAID ALL THAT YOU CAN SAY
THEN GET UP AND GO ON YOUR WAY
