The Hood ©2005 The Closet

My life story in the hood?
Growing up I never really had much to play with, my brothers? toys and mine, we both had to share it.
My mom was poor, she worked at a liquor store, now she?s paid, she doesn?t work any more.
We had no dad, so we really didn?t have no money. Broken shoes going to school, people thought it was funny.
Carry school books in bags, trying to make it through the struggle, and they wonder in the streets, why they got so many hustlers, trying to feed their seeds, and of course their loved ones.
Lucky for those who made it, don?t forget where you came from.
Christmas would come around, we couldn?t wait for the hour, just to find out we got our gifts from Family Dollar.

(Chorus) x2
In my hood, we got more poor than riches.
In my hood, people?s lives, end up in ditches.
In my hood, everybody?s just trying to get paid, in the streets, you can?t afford to be afraid.

The sad thing would have to be, trying to teach these kids right from wrong, because everybody?s got one chance to live.
We poor in the hood, as you can see, but we got celebrities up on MTV, trying to show their cribs, trying to show their house, trying to, show their cars, trying to bling their spouse.
All this foundation, are they really giving back, or is it all talk for population, fuck that.
You were once in the hood, at church you used to pray, you used to tell me, I could make it hard on the faith.
Just like you, I also have a dream, but I would never let money get over me and my family, in my hood.

(Chorus) x2
In my hood, we got more poor than riches.
In my hood, people?s lives, end up in ditches.
In my hood, everybody?s just trying to get paid, in the streets, you can?t afford to be afraid

Lives ticking away, people don?t really care, 99% are living on welfare.
This life we got, whether we like it or not, trying to send our kids to school, education stay on top.
Sometimes I wish I could change things, make ?em look good, here?s a brief story about me and my hood, in my hood

(Chorus) x2
In my hood, we got more poor than riches.
In my hood, people?s lives, end up in ditches.
In my hood, everybody?s just trying to get paid, in the streets, you can?t afford to be afraid
