Story Behind The Song
I used to get into conversations with mockingbirds when walking home late at night; I would whistle and the bird would imitate me. A while ago I stood under a tree in my neighborhood and listened to a bird go through 5 or 6 phases of car alarm sounds in a row. Freaked me out a little, so I wrote this song.
Song Description
This song is about communing with nature in the middle of the city. A Latin-leaning beat, flowing melody and slightly jazzy harmonies in the chorus.

Lyrics
My time, way early in the morning
Nobody tells you where to go
Down time, to savor while it?s free
Everybody knows the ampitheater?s closed
Sidewalks are better when they?re empty
Step on the grass, nobody cares
Where the cats go, moving in the shadows
Down to the corner, freaking out the squares
The lights go on as I walk by.
They tell me that I?m safe from harm.
The MOCKINGBIRD begins to cry
He sounds just like a car alarm.
I whistle him some nonsense...now he sounds like me.
I whistle him some nonsense...now he sounds like me.
Play time, this is not the future
Think your own thoughts, how lucky can you be?
Where they will go, filtered through your pillow
Up the weeping willow, too high to see
The lights go on as I walk by.
They tell me that I?m safe from harm.
The MOCKINGBIRD begins to cry
He sounds just like a car alarm.
I whistle him some nonsense...now he sounds like me.
I whistle him some nonsense...now he sounds like me.
I know you take it where you get it
Got to find a way to get it every day
Can we talk and never say a word?
Have you ever heard my friend the mockingbird?
The lights go on as I walk by.
They tell me that I?m safe from harm.
The MOCKINGBIRD begins to cry
He sounds just like a car alarm.
I whistle him some nonsense...now he sounds like me.
I whistle him some nonsense...now he sounds like me.
