Last Words

Story Behind The Song

The songwriter composed Last Words during a time of existential contemplation. After much thought, it became clear that life is a paradox, and that our struggles are but small pieces along the road to the next place. Last Words was born from this realization.

Song Description

We all live our lives, accepting the paradoxes that exist within our minds and hearts. Last Words is a song that explicitly captivates this feeling of being a living, breathing, contradiction, and yet this is what makes us whole; it is what makes us human. The song delivers a positive message about facing life's realities. It suggests that the things we fear most are not the end results, but the journey itself, the process. We are 'not afraid to die' but 'afraid to leave.' The instrumentation features bouncy guitar riffs and rhythmic piano, set to fantastic upbeat percussion! The lead vocals during the verses are sparse, and then build to climax during the chorus. The three-part harmonies set the stage for these powerful vocals & lyrics that are presented during each refrain.

Lyrics

These are the last words I spoke

I wasn't scared, I though it was a joke

But the sky crashed right through

And in the middle, there was truth

Chorus:

And I'm not afraid to die, I am more afraid to leave

And I'm not scared of the ground, I am more afraid to fall

More afraid to fall...

I am still moving on

Even when my body is gone

'Cause we are more than our flesh

We are more than some would suggest
