Story Behind The Song

I had lived for 6 years w/o health insurance. I was writing some poetry around 9/11 when many political ideas came out. I was frustrated that I lived in the "richest" country that doesn't provide it's people with basic medical needs. Selling doctors in the name of greed - that inspired the first verse. I was also simultaneously feeling bombarded with ads in New York to make people "better" by preying upon our inner needs. I felt this created a surface culture that was overiding the vast cultural traditions that were represented in this city and country. That inspired the second verse. The chorus was inspired by Bob Marley's Rastaman Chant. A feeling of love and truth will triumph within and without.

Song Description

I had this riff from HS and I always liked it. The band was experimenting with mixing drum and bass rhythms w/ rock. One way to do this is to take slower half time riffs like this one and put a double time D+B beat over it. We did that. Tobias our drummer comes in w/ crazy beats and rhythmic ideas. His playing dictated the lyrical cadence I found. Taylor's Bass growls underneath the chorus - very powerful
