Analia De Buenos Aires

Song Description

A concert guitar introduces the main theme which is accompanied by castanetas Solo Oboe and, later, solo Clarinet and triangle. The Oboe plays the main theme which is one of sweet friendly romance. As the theme develops, it modulates to a minor degree suggesting that this romance or fling is perhaps in secret or forbidden by outside forces. A sweet transitional phrase is played by the solo woodwind and guitar before we introduce a second even sweeter theme as if the lovers have found some privacy. The original theme returns again this time played by the orchestra's string section sounding bolder as if the lovers no longer care about who knows. The timpani and woodwind ensemble increase the boldness adding a bit of pride to the piece. The castanetas maintain a rhythm during the theme and also keep the Spanish flare. After the minor modulation the theme is played again in a lower register suggesting even more strength and boldness. The second sweet theme returns again but played by the string and woodwind ensembles. The guitar and castanetas return again to play yet a third rhythmic theme that could be danced to. This theme is accentuated by string pizzicatos. Perhaps the lovers are sneaking off to be together? The third theme ends and we hear the first seven notes of the main theme played by the full orchestra five times. Each time modulating downward in key as if the couple are trying to contact one another but can't for some reason so the theme is never finished and they are losing hope. As the guitar and solo woodwinds take the last seven notes the third dancey rhythmic theme returns with a vengeance. The full orchestra is now playing it with staccatos and timpani. After another woodwind ensemble transition suggesting uncertainty, the main theme returns again started by solo woodwind and guitar, then the full orchestra to its conclusion.
