I Don?t Know

He?s been trying all of these long years and he never ducks out,
He?s been trying but he hasn?t quite got what he needs.
And people tell him that he ought to be content with the life that he?s got,
People tell him all this but they just can?t see.

And I don?t know if he ever had so much of a hard time,
He finds the road leading back again, all the roads lead him back again,
And I don?t know if it might be too slow if he keeps in line,
He needs a chance to prove he might just see it through.

And she?s loving him and caring for him since the day that they met,
And she?s worried that he?s not the man he once was.
But she hasn?t a clue what?s really going on in his head,
All she sees is a guy she loves looking lost.

And I don?t know if she ever had so much of a good life,
She just wants him to come home again, to find the road leading home again,
And I don?t know if it might be wrong just to play the wife,
She needs a chance to prove that she?s good for him too,

He might just see it through, he might break from his chains,
And if only he knew, if he knew of the pain,
If he knew how it hurt, to see him so at sea,
