Circus Love

Story Behind The Song

When I was a boy I loved the small circus that would come to our hometown and set up in my uncles' pasture. It seemed so exotic, and fueled my young imagination. I have also, always loved stories about lovers overcoming obstacles to find one another.

Song Description

It's an enchanting story song about two very brave individuals at what they do in the circus. When it comes to love, they are fearful until one day they take a leap of faith to find love.

Lyrics

CIRCUS LOVE

Tightrope Tom, worked without a net,
Walking the wire between this world and the next.
Lucy she loved the Big cats, moved them thru fire, with a wave of her hat.
Never did she use a whip, her eyes were her only grip.

You see with Lucy, Tom felt out of place
Then he'd take to the sky with ease and grace
But on the ground Tom could barely speak, stuttered and stammered, 'till his knees went weak.
Lucy loved him anyway, if only he would look her way.

Now Lucy, inside the cage, was brave,
But outside with Tom, her face would burn with shame
For over her body were many scars, still Lucy kept counting her lucky stars
For early there'd been an accident, Lucy got careless, lost her grip.

Chorus-
We're tightrope walkers and lion tamers
Born to fly and born to fight
Big top dreamers all are we
Taking chances with all our might.

Tom thought Lucy, the bravest gal of all
thought she never even noticed him at all.
he would never meet her gaze, tongue tripped him up always
Each night he walked the wire for her, he knew he could die for her.

One night alone inside the tent, Tom was practicing, preparing his ascent
When he heard a noise, a cough perhaps, maybe a sneeze or was it a laugh
Coming from the edge of the light, Lucy stepped out, Tom's heart took flight.

Without a thought Tom took her took her by the arm
Lead her up the ladder to the platform.
Below them they heard some chatter, people were coming , folks had gathered
Tom stepped out on the wire, his heart was on fire.

CHORUS-

Looking back to Lucy, Tom offered his arm
No hesitation, she took his hand and felt a calm
They stepped out into the air, together they were meant to be there
Her eyes met his and never blinked, he smiled and gave her a wink.

And down below the people gasped , as they inched their way at last
Lucy she never even flinched, her hand held tight in Tom's fist.
And as they reached the other side, the crowd below, began to cheer and cry

And each night forward the circus played,Tom on the wire, Lucy in the cage
Defying death without whip or net, their biggest fear, both had met.
With love in the air, love on the ground
Lucy and Tom thought they'd never be found.

CHORUS -
