Story Behind The Song
I wrote this tune shortly after the 2002 congressional elections. It was clear that the Bush administration had managed to seduce a grieving nation into a bloodthirsty policy of revenge, hegemony and imperialism.
I cynically and mockingly got "on-board" with this tune. It's sort of a "Let's Dance" rythm with that nasal glam rock type of vocal, ala Bowie"s Iggy period. I was pleased with it and my guitar work on the piece.

Lyrics
thread the needle,
prick the thumb
thread unwinds
from spinning spool
passion masks the graceless fool
banners fly
forge a motto
bold as brass
post in on
a lightning rod
shades the careless demigogue
banners fly
unfurling shibboleth
to rain down the stones
and meals for the mother
her pale children's bones
draw the lanyard
through the flag
raise the shameless
banner high
marketing trends never lie
banners fly
