Story Behind The Song
My wife heard that American Idol was having a contest to write the next Idol's first song. She conceived the theme of singing ability as a gift, as well as the line, "My gift is my voice." I built lyrics around that, and put music to it.
Song Description
The depiction of singing ability as a gift herein has a dual meaning. It is both the singer's talent ("My gift is my voice..."), and the singer's offering to another ("...the notes that I give you..."). As an offering, the gift transports the recipient to a higher spiritual plane, while still in this physical existence ("You're high above the world, with your feet still on the ground..."). It is a gift of transcendence, imparting all of the solace, well-being, understanding, etc., that accompanies such an elevation of spirit.

Lyrics
Verse 1
I can mend your broken heart
I can make you feel strong
I can lift your spirit higher
As if nothing's even wrong
I take you in my arms
And the music wraps around
Envelops you in comfort
And you're carried by the sound
Chorus
My gift is my voice
The songs that I sing
The notes that I give you (soar to)
The love that I bring
I give you myself
There's no other choice
I wouldn't know how
I love with my music
My gift is my voice
Verse 2
Take you with a song
Feel your spirit rise
Take you to a good place
And there's magic in your eyes
You're high above the world
With your feet still on the ground
The music's in your heart now
And you're carried by the sound
Chorus
Bridge
Well it's some kind of miracle
And I don't know where it comes from
But I thank my lucky stars that I can sing
"Cause I don't know how I'd reach you
And I don't know how I'd teach you
If I couldn't sing, what would I bring?
