A Long Way To Fall

Story Behind The Song

I have seen people rise to success only to fall and it's interesting to see who builds a better life through adversity and who gives up and let's the world take them.

Song Description

A man finds success, but then loses it. He decides life isn't in him anymore so he wanders into the desert to die. After thinking it's over and he feels his death. He wakes up to find it was a dream and has a life renewed.

Lyrics

He woke up in an empty room,
Nothing but a bed,
And a cracked picture on the wall.
Success had been the only dream,
Achieved it all he did,
Until the dream had gotten the best of him,
And he lost it all.

It's a long way to fall.
When you blink once and you lose it all
And there's nothing on this earth
that can keep you from droppin' off
It's a long way to fall.

The drink only depressed him more.
Ambition left him dry,
Determination left his soul.
He thought he'd run away,
Try to leave it all behind.
He found him self in a desert land,
And wandered in to die.

It's a long way to fall.
When you blink once and you lose it all
And there's nothing on this earth
That can keep you from droppin' off
It's a long way to fall.

And as he lay there delusional,
Didn't think that he hurt anyone,
With all the choices that he made.
He pulled a picture from his pocket,
His wife and daughter shown.
And as the water stung his eyes,
He prayed he would not die alone.

With his tear stained cheeks,
He squinted at the sun.
He swore that he saw Diety,
And his life's race had been run.
The last thought,
That went through his mind,
Was the smile on his daughter's face,
And the wife he left behind.

It's a long way to fall.
When you blink once and you lose it all
And there's nothing on this earth
That can keep you from droppin' off
It's a long way to fall.

His face slowly hit the ground,
Lifeless to the world,
The darkness covered over him,
When he woke up on that pillow,
In his dusty empty room.
He fell down on his knees,
Looked to the sky and said,

Lord, It's a long way to fall.
When you get lost and you lose it all
But there's nothing on this earth
That can keep me from hangin' on
It's a long way to fall.
