Story Behind The Song
I broke down several years ago in western Tennessee while traveling back to Oklahoma to see my wife. I had been gone for a few months and was anxious to get back home.
I tried (to no avail) to get a bus driver to allow me to take up space on his route to OKC for free.......as I was broke. Seemed like a song to me!

Lyrics
Well hey Mr. Grey Hound driver
Can you lend this poor boy a hand
I just ran outa cash and I'm almost outa gas
And I'm stuck here in this one horse town
I was on my way to Oklahoma
To see the girl of my dreams
It's been a long long while and I have to see her smile
But she's 300 miles away
I've got to get to Oklahoma City
To see the girl I love
So put that hammer down and get out on the highway
And let that doggy run
I said Mr. won't you lend this poor boy a hand
well hey there Grey Hound driver
Can you help a boy who's down on his luck
I have no way to pay
The only thing to give away
Is the title to this broken down truck
I was on my way to Oklahoma
But I'm runnin low on fuel and short on time
If you could lend a hand to this desperate man
I've got to cross that Arkansas state line
I've got to get to Oklahoma City
To see the girl I love
So put that hammer down
And get out on the highway
And let that doggy Run
I said Mr. won't you lend this poor boy a hand
If you can
Well hey Mr. Grey Hound driver
Can you lend this poor boy a hand
I just ran outa cash and I'm almost outa gas
And stuck here in this one horse town
I've got to get to Oklahoma City
To see the girl I love
So put that Hammer down and get out on the highway
And let that Doggy run
