Just An Old Dude

Story Behind The Song

Writer wanted to be a big-time singer but pursued another career, but his music kept tugging at his heart strings and he tried to get back into music when older and found he couldn't be a big star because of the age discrimination in the music world. Lyrics

Just An Old Dude (In A Young Man's Game)
Music & Lyrics by Ronnie Caywood January 2007

(Verse 1)

I'm Just an old dude in a Young man's game

There's no thought of fortune, record deals or fame

Just play my songs for you, hey I'm so glad you came.

(Verse 2)

A misspent youth given to drink

Never took the time to sit down and think

Just rambled down that road, My life a red light on the blink

(Verse 3)

Then I met her and she sat me

Down, She said believe in yourself

And things will turn around.

So I tuned up my guitar and went looking for a sound.

(Chorus)

So let's cowboy up, win one for the Gipper

I'll play you a tune make sure it's a ripper.

We'll have one more round and

We'll pass the hat

We won't fix what's broke and

Then we'll all drink to that

If I don't make the big time

Who am I to complain.

Cause I'm just an old dud

Singin' in a young man's game.

(Crannal)

Just an old dude in a young man's game

Just an old dude who rose above his pain to live again.

(Verse 4)

There's no tour bus, no concert dates

No radio shows and I play for

The gate at this tiny little club

Just off the interstate.

(Verse 5)

Music City never called, I guess

That Branson deal fell through

Rolling Stones is still on hold, guess

They ditched my interview

But I'm in it for the long haul

You know dreams sometimes come true.

(Repeat Chorus)
