Is This Living

Story Behind The Song

Rollo Tangent (founding member of the band theENTANgIBLES) was in the studio of the seminal Art-Rock band, The Tubes, finishing work on some tracks, when he decided to call it a day. Unbeknownst to him, later that night, one of his mentors, Michael Cotten (of The Tubes), came into the studio, and over Rollo's original music tracks, laid down some beautiful, captivating sound-bites/lyrics of homeless people dreaming of a brighter, future. Michael and Rollo both ended up loving it, and from there Rollo got together with another friend/mentor Howard Leese (Heart, Paul Rodgers) who while on tour in San Francisco, recorded some tasty guitar lead. He then hooked up with another friend/mentor Buddy Miles (Jimi Hendrix, Santana) who was just pure soul when he sang on the background vocals. Rollo then flew off to London to record some more instruments. After a final drum and synth touch-up in Amsterdam, he headed back to California... .. The final moment when it all came together was up in Sonoma, with friend/mentor Bill Spooner (also of The Tubes) finishing the lyrics and singing the lead vocal part. .. .. The end result is 'Is This Living,' a haunting track that mixes sound collage, soulful vocals, and soaring instrumental tracks, and, ultimately, asks the question, where does one find "home," contentment, and hope? Rollo Tangent is based in Amsterdam, and California... ..
