Story Behind The Song
I was in San Diego when I wrote this one. I've always secretly wanted to move to California. (It's actually not that big of a secret.) The song takes place in the gaslamp district in San Diego, near the bar area of town. The gaslamps refer to my eyes, looking at myself in the mirror, and how last call at a bar there is no different than in a bar here - don't waste your time thinking about moving, because life is tough wherever you are.

Lyrics
Life is tough, people don?t understand
What it took to take this land
There are people moving everywhere
Trying to get nowhere fast
Visions of gaslamps and ocean blue
Trying to find out what is true
There are people dancing everywhere
Trying to find out what is there
(Chorus)
You can see gaslamps in the mirror
Don?t be wasting your time
And it all seems all too familiar
Just before last call
The bar is crowded, people everywhere
South of cartoons and foothills
The mission bells are ringing everywhere
And all I do is sit and stare
Life is tough, people don?t understand
So come and take me by the hand
There are people moving everywhere
Trying to find out what is there
