Flu Song

Story Behind The Song

This song was started in the Summer of 1994. I had been home sick from work for a couple days and was starting to get cabin fever. As I was starting to feel a little better, I went downstairs to my 4-track. I was experimenting with a bass line over the drum machine and the next thing you know, I'm tossing out lines about the first thing I see in the morning - a clock and it indicates noon! The concept kept going, and actually turned into an introspective song, not so much about the flu anymore, but about being alone. The early REM-flavored guitar finished off the song. In 60 minutes, I was done with it, only to add a few more lines a couple years later. I still have that original 4-track tape too. The vocals are horrible!

Lyrics

When I see your face it?s twelve o?clock
Oh no no I, I have overslept, I?ve overslept again
When I see your face it?s one o?clock
Oh no no I, I have overslept, I don?t where I
Don?t know where I am

I am lost again, I?m lost again and I don?t know why
Don?t know where, I don?t know why

When I see your face I?m so afraid (see the face)
Oh no no I, I have felt this way, I?ve felt this way before
When I see your face it?s love again (see the face)
Oh no no I, I have lost myself, I don?t know where I
Don?t know who I am

I am lost again, I?m lost again and I don?t know why
Don?t know where, I don?t know why

Solo

I am lost again, I?m lost again and I don?t know why
Don?t know where, I don?t know why

When I see your face it?s twelve o?clock (see the face)
Oh no no I, I have overslept, I?ve overslept again
When I go I can see everything
It?s all so clear, I can start again, Can start again
Can start again, and I

I am lost again, I?m lost again and I don?t know why
I have overslept, I?ve overstepped the me I?ve left behind
I am lost again, I?m lost again and I don?t know why
Don?t know where, I don?t know why
