Jon The Baptist

Story Behind The Song

If a few years ago you were to ask me if I'd ever write a song that even hinted to "God" I would probably laugh at you. The song "Jon the Baptist" was recently inspired by a childhood friend named Jonathon Demartino who survived a close range shotgun blast through his lower abdomen. After a series of miracles, and five tedious months of healing, Jon made an amazing recovery and was released from the hospital. I've always considered Jon to be like the younger brother I never had. I've been close with him and his Mother for almost 12 years now, so you could only imagine all we've been through together. I began writing a song for Jon the day after he was shot. I knew I was writing a song for my friend but I still didn't know if he was going to live or die. After almost three days in the hospital Doctors told Jon's Mother "he's extremely lucky he made it this far", but most likely wouldn't make it through the night. His blood pressure was dangerously low and there was nothing more they could do. When I spoke with Jon's Mother she told me the devastating news. She also told me that when Jon was born she "lifted him up to God" and asked for mercy on her Son. The events that followed the Doctors bad news were truly remarkable. It's amazing what will power and love can achieve. (not to mention over 150 blood transfusions)

Lyrics

Jon the Baptist

Jon your not the Baptist,
Your habit's tragic
It left you with a shotgun hole

"Lift you up to God"

You're more than lucky to be alive
You know there's someone by your side

Jon, you're like a brother
One to another
You'll never be alone

"Lift you up to God"

You're more than lucky to be alive
You know there's someone by your side
