many years ago when I was just a little boy
Grandma would take my hand and I felt a rush of joy
we'd sit out on the grass in the shade of a mulberry tree
I'd close my eyes and fantasize eagerly

she'd read me stories 'bout butterflies and bumble bees
explaining that they were signs of the coming of spring
and with the warm sunshine and clouds of falling rain
that soon roses in her garden would be blooming

When my mind begins to roam grandma comes to mind
she'd always read me stories even when it came bedtime
she'd taught me rhymes and riddles, the bible and poetry
yeah, my grandma meant the whole world to me

at times we'd take long walks down hidden trails
we'd always turn around when we finally reached the rails
whenever my throat was dry and I became thirsty
we shared a bottle of grandma's sun brewed tea

every Sunday she'd take me to a church nearby
singing amazing grace always would make her cry
Sunday she would always bake cherry pies
that was how her every Sunday went by
