Story Behind The Song
My dad, Richard Kirsch, used to make up funny country song titles like How Can I Love Your Body When Your Heart Isn't In It, and When I Go Cross-eyed You Look Twice As Good. When he passed in 1991, my cousin Christy suggested I write a country song in his memory. This is it; about the place we used to go fishing in the 60s in Three Rivers, California. There's a swimming/fishing hole on the Kaweah river there we called the Green Pool because the people who lived there had Green for their last name.

Lyrics
Fishing In The Green Pool
When I was young we moved around a lot
that's how my dad got us the things that we got.
He came from the depression wanting better for us
me and my brother, we just got lucky.
Work took him away each and every work day but when the weekend came, we'd be
(Chorus): Fishing in the Green Pool, or upstream in the Smith Pool
talking by the clear water and wishing like a dang fool.
When I was too young he'd bait the hook for me
And that's how I know that my Par loved me
When I got older and was looking for a way to belong
He didn't like it when my hair got long.
He'd served in the Pacific in World War Two;
that gave him a specific point of view.
Those times were hard for a son and his dad, but we always had
Chorus
(Bridge): Standing on the rocks showing me how to cast
that's the kind of love that lasts and lasts
the years and the water were rolling by fast...
Now I've grown up and have a child of my own
I thank God for the love I've been shown.
They say my dad's father wasn't much of one;
he learned on his own how to raise his son...
It came without warning one sad November
But look at all the nice things he left me to remember, like
(Chorus): Fishing in the Green Pool, or upstream in the Smith Pool
talking by the clear water and laughing like a dang fool.
There was nowhere else that he wanted to be;
he gave me the world on the bank of that stream
and that's how I know that my Par loved me.
How my Par loved me...
