Thing of the Past

Story Behind The Song

In highschool I had a relationship with a woman that ended when we both went off to college. I didn't see her for many years. When I finally did, she had changed radically both physically and in personality due to her coming down with pschysophrenia. This made me yearn for the girl I used to know, and also try to remember what she was like. One evening I walked by her old house - the one she lived in during highschool - which sparked the beginning of the song. The song isn't a literal translation of what happened between she and I. Our relationship was a jumping off point for the song.

Lyrics

Red light atop a radio tower. Blinking away the night, marking the hours. Just like it did when we were one. But ambition swept us away like the night is by the sun.

We're a thing of the past.

I'm walking along our old avenue. Lights are off in your old room. We've been apart for a long time now. Whatever happened to those kissed sealed vows.

Thing of the past.

We've moved on down different roads. Settled in new lives in distant homes. You haunt my heart, hide in my mind. Hear a feint echo of your sigh.

For our thing of the past.
