Oz

Story Behind The Song

Singer/Songwriter Peter Kelly wrote this song when thinking of how is father feels that after everything he accomplished in life, he never feels as if he really "made it." The chorus was also inspired by Kelly's then girlfriend who made him feel thankful and as if he was taking on the world with her which is where the idea for having the female harmony vocal came from. He says "We got over the rainbow...we walked on the yellow brick road...ect..." In the second and third verse he says "our HEARTS are broken, and we've lost our MINDS, we're SCARED to death" to describe the pain of feeling like you lost. Heart, Mind, and Scared refer to the the things the tin man, scarecrow, and lion were going to ask the wizard for.

Song Description

Singer talks about realizing that even though life hasn't turned out exactly the way we planned, it is still a great life and we did in fact make it to paradise (Oz). The song uses themes from the Wizard of Oz to describe the arrival into the world of one's dreams.

Lyrics

Oz

We always want what we never had
When what we got isn't really all that bad
So we're not rich, and we're not stars
and we'll never see most of the world from where we are
We saw enough, and made our own way
Good for us, I would say, that....

CHORUS:
We got, we got over the rainbow
We walked on the yellow brick road
We got to the emerald city
We can say that there's no place like home

It don't look like Oz through desperate eyes
But it's all we ever wanted in disguise
Our hearts are broken, and we've lost our minds
We're scared to death, but we must be blind, cause...

CHORUS:
We got, we got over the rainbow
We walked on the yellow brick road
We got to the emerald city
We can say that there's no place like home

This must be Oz

It looks just like Oz but we'll never see
The colors coming to life on our black and white TV
Cause our hearts are broken, and we've lost our minds
We're scared to death, but we must be blind, cause....

CHORUS:
We got, we got over the rainbow
We walked on the yellow brick road
We got to the emerald city
We can say that there's no place like home
We got, we got over the rainbow
We walked on the yellow brick road
We got to the emerald city
We can say that there's no place like home
