May Flowers

Story Behind The Song

Singer/Songwriter lost a life long friend in 2011. They knew each other since they were babies. On his last birthday (in April) she called him and said that she wanted to meet his new girl friend. Peter had already made plans for the next day but said if it rained that he would cancel and go visit her. It didn't rain and 3 weeks later his friend Michelle died suddenly. In the chorus he sings, "and I would have gone like I explained, for me an April day it didn't rain...but the May Flowers came for you" (meaning in the form of funeral flowers)

Lyrics

May Flowers

It's December, not a day goes by that I don't remember
and it's never been like me to surrender, but tonight I raised the flag
Can you see me, if I spoke up to the stars would you hear me
Cause I never had the chance to say really
How much you meant to me

And I would have gone like I explained, for me an April day it didn't rain
but the May Flowers came for
You who said you'd understand, we didn't know that life had made a wicked plan
till the May Flowers came for you

I can see us, so young then old could that really be us
We had tales so tall that no one believed us, but we told them again and again
Now it's just me, me and your imprint on my memory
Me and all the stories about me that I only told to you
No one knows but...

You who said you'd understand, we didn't know that life had made a wicked plan
till the May Flowers came for you
And I would have gone like I explained, for me an April day it didn't rain
but the May Flowers came for you

Life is so unkind
It twists and turns us, bites and burns us
and we're filled with holes that fleeing souls leave behind

And I would have gone like I explained, for me an April day it didn't rain
but the May Flowers came for
You who said you'd understand, we didn't know that life had made a wicked plan
till the May Flowers came for you

and so the May Flowers came for you
and so the May Flowers came for you
