The Way That I Am

Story Behind The Song

I was inspired to write this song while driving my '63 Ford F100 farm truck one day to the school where I teach. I began to think of writing a song that depicts my life and something that every true country girl can relate to, from fishing until wee hours of the morning to rushing around in the pasture to hurry up and get the square bales picked up before the rain sets in and ruins the crop. The actual song was loosely written in about a half hour because the words just came so naturally to me. It is my hope that the listener can connect with my lyrics and bless them as much as my life has been blessed.

Song Description

This song describes my life in the biographical form of a song. Every bit of this song is true, and depicts my life growing up in a small Texas town on a small Texas farm. It always produces a smile from the audience and has been fondly (and in a clean manner) nicknamed "The Boob Song".

Lyrics

I'm a ride in my '63 Ford on a gravel road on a Saturday night.
I'm a fishing partner at 2am with a stringer of fish on the line.
I'm a helping hand gettin' square bales out of the pasture 'fore the rain sets in.
My word is my bond there's no need to hold me to it by paper and pen.
What you see is what you got.
I'll tell you some things I'm not.

I'm not a caviar queen, my dress is my jeans I take my boots off at the door.
I'm not a plastic body, just a natural hottie and my boobs weren't bought at the store.
I may not fit at a night at the Ritz but I can hang with whatever is planned.
I'm just a corn-fed, Texas bred country girl, and that's just the way that I am.

I'm the perseverance, sweat and tears that won that buckle on my belt.
I'm the one that sees the glass half full from all the cards that I am dealt.
I'm a teacher at a 2A school hanging up the Ten Commandments in my class.
And if you try to make me take 'em down, you can kiss my country grass.

I'm just a corn-fed, Texas bred country girl, and that's just the way that I am.
