I'll Make the Best of This

Story Behind The Song

At age 10, the songwriter's parents divorced leaving him to contend with the normal questions and issues that follow such a momentous personal event. Over 20 years later, and after many attempts at putting the experience into words, he finally found a way to tell the story in a way that was true to his experience - with acceptance both of his parents' decisions as well as with his own feelings of confusion, loneliness and hope.

Lyrics

Changing times are ahead
Father's not sleeping in mother's bed
I'll make the best of, best of this.

Must have been something I've said
Or a sugar rush to the head
I'll make the best of, best of this.

Look on the bright side
You'll get two of everything.
Spend your weekends at museums and with ice cream.
What good will that do,
Without the both of you.

Outsiders coming in to and fro
Strangers making themselves at home
I'll make the best of this.
Statistics tell me it's one in three
Is that supposed to make me happy?
I'll make the best of, best of this.

Look on the bright side you'll get two of everything.
Spend your weekends at museums and with ice cream.
What good will that do without the both of you.

I'm devising a plan which is failsafe and genius at the same time
I can get them on their first date
And they'll kiss for the very first time
And it will all be alright once again
But until then, I'll make the best of, the best of this.
