Story Behind The Song
When we wrote this song, both of us (Jeanine Guidry and Rob Wright) primary writers were going through a difficult time in life (dealing respectively with death and divorce in our families). A friend of ours had just released an album with all lullabies, and we talked about how in hard times as a grown up often there still is that desire for someone to sing you a lullaby, and to bring comfort that is often elusive.
Song Description
Slow ballad, a lullaby with a twist - instead of an original lullaby this is a request for one from a grown up's perspective.

Lyrics
Grown-up lullaby
Haven?t talked much to you lately
Saw you pass me on the street
The hands of time keep turning
But we never seem to meet
Somehow I can?t get there
Though my life is full of haste
Can?t remember the last time that I prayed
Now I lay me down to sleep
And I pray that You will be
In my dreams
Near to my soul
The only comfort I can find
Is in Your presence here tonight
So sing to me
A lullaby
Can?t escape this day completely
As the key turns in the door
The cluttered piles of laundry on the floor
So I take a sip of wine and turn the lights down low
And say the only prayer my heart still knows
Now I lay me down to sleep
And I pray that You will be
In my dreams
Near to my soul
The only comfort I can find
Is in Your presence here tonight
So sing to me
A lullaby
Rest your head on my shoulders
I will keep you safe tonight
Know that I am with you for all time
I surround you when you?re weary
When the world is closing in
Just remember that you?re mine
Now I lay me down to sleep
And I pray that You will be
In my dreams
Near to my soul
The only comfort I can find
Is in Your presence here tonight
So sing to me
A lullaby
