L.A. Girlfriend

Story Behind The Song

You know those people you meet at bars or shows or wherever who are constantly putting up a front like they are God?s gift to the world? Those people who all seem to have it under control? Have you ever seen them in their real environments where they?re forced to really be themselves? It?s comical. I was watching a documentary about the L.A. metal music scene in the late 80's. One guy in particular was talking about using the women in the scene to pay his rent and buy him food. He said something like, "The chicks don't even get in the door without a bag of groceries in their arms." I?m convinced this guy really wasn?t as cool as he let on. This song is divided into three perspectives: The metal guy bragging to his friends about how he manipulates his girlfriend; the woman complaining about the guy to her friends; and how the guy really acts around the woman when they are together.

Lyrics

She?s my L.A. girlfriend
She supports me and the band
And I would never leave her for a supermodel
When I?m rich and famous, man.
He never washes the car--never mows the lawn
Never does the dishes?his friends sleep on the floor
Never brings me flowers?never feeds the cat
Hey it?s 2 am?where the hell you at?
Do what she wants?do what I?m told
Do what she says.
She?s my L.A. girlfriend
I take her paycheck and she takes my crap
She?s my L.A. girlfriend
When she says she?s in love I just laugh.
He never washes the car--never mows the lawn
Never does the dishes?his friends sleep on the floor
Never brings me flowers?never feeds the cat
Hey it?s 3 am?where the hell you at?
Do what she wants?do what I?m told
Do what she says.
She?s my L.A. girlfriend
The older I get the more they?ll airbrush the pictures of my face
She?s my L.A. girlfriend
The older she gets the more she?ll get replaced.
Never does the dishes?his friends sleep on the floor
Never brings me flowers?never feeds the cat
Hey it?s 4 am?where the hell you at?
Do what she wants?do what I?m told
Do what she says.
